Fish oil is a natural and highly bioavailable source of omega 3 fatty acids, including EPA and DHA. Research has shown that early fish oil supplementation in puppyhood can help reduce the risk of developing allergy symptoms in adulthood. Additionally, it has anti-inflammatory and healthy immune system benefits which can help to improve skin lesions, and other symptoms associated with allergies.

Fish oil has also been shown in several studies to support a reduced dose of medications such as steroids and cyclosporine for some pets. When supplemented orally, it has also been shown to increase overall lipid content of the skin and improve the health of the skin barrier, particularly when combined with omega 6 fatty acids.

Evening Primrose Oil (EPO) is a bioavailable source of linoleic acid and gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) which are essential to a healthy skin barrier. Gamma linolenic acid is often a missing part in the diet of dogs and cats! Oral supplementation has been shown in studies to increase levels of healthy fats (arachidonic acid) within the skin, significantly reduce itch, redness, flakiness, and swelling of the skin, and to improve coat condition in canine allergy patients. It has also been shown in several studies to support a reduced dose of medications such as steroids for some pets.

Flaxseed oil is an excellent source of an omega 3 fatty acid called alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), a critical nutrient for maintaining healthy skin and a thick shiny coat. Studies have shown that flax oil significantly improves skin and coat quality and reduces symptoms associated with allergies in dogs and cats. When supplemented orally, it has been shown in research to significantly improve hair coat shine, softness, uniformity, color intensity, and thickness.

Egg shell membrane provides beneficial nutrients for skin health including collagen, elastin, desmosine, isodesmosine, and glycosaminoglycans. Additionally, it provides transforming Growth Factor Proteins – including ovocalixin, ovocleidin, and ovotransferrin which play a crucial role in tissue repair. 

Biotin is an essential B complex vitamin that serves many critical roles within the body. Deficiency of this nutrient in dogs and cats can present as hair loss, dull coat, scaly or flaky skin, change in coat color and low energy. It is also important for maintaining healthy nails. Research has shown that biotin supplementation can help improve dull coat, brittle hair, loss of hair, scaly skin, itchiness and skin conditions.
